Happenings - Home Brew U

Home Brew U
27 March 1993
Seattle, Washington, USA

Here's a menu you can't pass up. Start off with an appetizer of Randy Mosher and Dr. Michael Lewis with "technical" the main ingredient, then indulge in a main course of fresh Pacific Ocean oysters and a menu repleat with beer, and top it off with brewers Darryl Richman, Bill Owens, and Fal Allen and writers Gene Ford and Michael Jackson, and you've got an event that Billy Crystal can't top.

In its second year, Home Brew U is the stuff institutions are made of. Held at the famous Improv in Seattle, the one-day seminar satisfied the cravings of those who want details and quality, and lots of it. Rivaling the seminar content in appeal was the luncheon created by Chef Doug Murray of the Improv and several able associates - an extraordinary array of foods prepared with beer or beer ingredients (see box). The sponsors generously poured beer from Pike Place Brewery and other specialty brewery bottles. A good time was had by all.

The attendance and level of interest among attendees reflects the intense desire for in-depth information on small-scale brewing in the craft brewing scene. With such a good turnout and response from attendees, perhaps other able sponsors will find reason to support similar events in their area.

Sponsors Liberty Malt Supply Co. and Taylor United Oysters are to be commended for aiming their sights high and presenting a quality event that was educational as well as fun.
